Pssst! It's not an SDK

Today I realized that what people think Google has been giving developers is not an SDK.

There is no reason for Google not to release an SDK. What new features could there be? Oh Yes, an improved simulator, which runs even faster than the phones and is even more unrealistic to develop on.

On the other hand, what could give these developers a real advantage in developing their apps? Developing for real hardware is totally different from developing on a simulator. Basically it has nothing to do, from scrolling performance, to battery life, to latencies, to speed, to crashes. Google would really benefit from people trying out their hardware, and developing applications for it. I am guessing Google hopes to make a great launch of hardware some time later this year, and wants applications to showcase, written by third parties, but they have to be good enough to demo, and that requires a lot of testing and tweaking on the actual device.

Yup, they are signing NDAs. And getting phones.
